Communication and service delivery across the export chain.

In the current environment, where volatility has become the norm rather than the exception, one thing should not be slipping – communication. Exporters are under pressure from all sides, with ongoing market uncertainty and disruption weighing on operations. Decisions need to be made quickly, and when things go wrong, they need to be fixed just as quickly. That becomes very difficult when communication channels are limited or slow.

We are increasingly hearing from members that service levels are becoming harder to navigate. Processes are being pushed online, with fewer opportunities to speak to someone directly. Bookings are cancelled or changed with little engagement and when issues arise it is often difficult to reach the right person to resolve them.

Digital systems have their place, but they cannot replace relationships. In a sector as complex and time-sensitive as ours, access to people – and to answers – matters.

Equally important is the need for greater collaboration between all service providers supporting exports. The supply chain does not operate in silos and the impact is felt across the board when one part fails to communicate or align with another. Now, more than ever, we need stronger collaboration and more responsive service as the demand for speed and reliability continues to grow.

At EWC, we remain committed to providing a platform for constructive engagement and dialogue, ensuring that the voice of the exporter is heard and that practical solutions are advanced. This includes working collaboratively with service providers to support a more responsive, aligned supply chain and to ensure that Western Cape trade remains active and resilient.
